I just found out today that as of Nov 15, my department is changing their hospital affiliation and we are getting a new medical director. Fortunately, it is a doc that we are somewhat familiar with, but we will still have to learn his quirks.
The good news is that our protocols won't be changing. All of the hospitals in the county that provide medical direction for EMS get together each year and agree on a standard set of protocols.
Compassion is not a page in your protocol book; it comes from within you. As paramedics, we must have and never lose our sense of compassion for the sick, the injured and the ones who call for no apparent reason.
