Hmmmmm . . . if this becomes common practice in hospitals I guess that whole stay and play thread will become immaterial.

Potentially, I will take a wait and see approach. Many things with great initial findings turn out to be largely ineffective or dangerous. Anybody remember polyheme?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing... it raises a whole lotta questions... like what will this do to ALS in the field? And how will it eventually change ACLS protocols?

It also seems pretty pricey... heart-lung machines ain't cheap, and I highly doubt many/any of the smaller community hospitals even have them... so is this going to turn into yet another classist/elitist benefit? "Stay and play" if they don't have insurance, but if they do, fly them to the nearest "Lazarus-capable" hospital?

On the other hand... daaaaammmmnnn.... 80% survival rate?

But then again it also says that I could be a Fire Chief - and I have no fire training...sooooo....


But yes I agree....DAMN, 80% survival rate!....Total of 34 pts, 7 deaths out of those and all but 2 of the survivors remained neurologically intact?!? UNREAL!!!

Don't worry about that, Congress is about to "fix" our healthcare system. Getting to use the bypass machines will be free only you'll have to undergo 3 weeks of CPR before one comes available.
