    Default Ambulance Toolboxes

I don't know if this is going in the right forum, but I will place it in the BLS section because it has to do with ALL EMS and transport units.

you know that little tool box that we keep in the outside compartment that is behind the driver. What kind of tools do you keep in it. I am looking for a general list, nothing department specific. If you have something that you think works but seems out of the ordinary, tell us why you have it. Lets make a list and see what everyone else uses.

That must be one hell of a happy place to work at. Can you fax me an app?
    Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

We have our own maintenance with a fully licenced garage, so no need for us to get hand on. The only thing I ever used was wrench/spanner kinda thing to remove the manometers from the oxygen tanks. They tend to tighten due to the pressure and you can't get 'em off by hand anymore. Other than that, I got nothing.

The whole purpose of hand tools on the trucks was not so that we could work on them, but so that we had a basic set of hand tools should we need them on a call.

If you're driving a Wheeled Coach, you will need a Phillips screwdriver and a LOT of spare hardware to replace what falls off. Also some JB weld for the cabinet doors.
I am no longer disgusted, just amused.

We have a roadside maintainance that will respond for any mechanical issues that arise, and a tire truck on 24/7 if we get a flat.

Gone are the days when we are allowed to have hand tools on our truck apparently after many years of doing our own repairs they have taken it all way for fear we might actually fix something. regardless of what other uses we might have such as a hammer and punch to remove a swing door at a res to get our stretcher. now it is ask the homeowner to borrow their tools or call the fire dept.

Bring back the tool box to all EMS units.

We have a tool set with screwdrivers, wrenches, ect, a hammer and punch, and a trouble light. (ya know, the ones mechanics use.)
In the beginning was the word, and the word was BEER and it was good.
