Never heard of it, but it's brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I'll keep that in mind next time I come across a suitable patient. Thanks for sharing.
I like it....Sounds like a great way to get the job done.
Just to clarify...take a miniset and hook it into a nasal canula, without cutting on anything and then tape it across the bridge of their nose?
I've done it once...about 5 years ago. Something I learned in Spec classes...it does work great.
Another thing that works great too (It doesn't have to do with flushing eyes though) is for Trach or intubated patients with severe asthma....connect blue tubing to both ends of your nebulizer, connect one end to the ETT, the other to a BVM and bag your Albuterol into your pt.
This was something that the doc that taught my pharm class showed us and wouldn't you know it, a month later, we had a 6 year old girl, trach patient having a severe asthma attack (Trached due to her asthma) and my 2 partners weren't sure what to do except give sub-cutaneous epi. I took a couple of seconds to assemple the monstorsity and taped it to the end of her trach tube and within a few minutes, her lungs cleared greatly.
There's quite a bit of ingenuity out there that doesn't violate protocols and may actually save someone's life one day.
yeah they taught us the method in medic school. used it quite oten in field problems. infantry guy's love investigating thins hey shouldn't......seriously like 10 year old's with guns. favorite time i did it was in the box, my gunner got some sand in his eye so i hooked up the cannula to a liter of NS then sttod on top of the vehicle (while it was moving) and irrigated. worked like a charm.....and it was some cheap thrills.
i've never done it in the field, but it was taught in my emt classes. but i didn't use that card for long, i basically went straight to medic
definitely, FAST DANGER!!!:iroc:
