Default Mental Health Transports

So how do you guys in other places handle these? Male medic with a male PT? Female medic with a female PT? Or does it not matter? Anyones personal concerns? I always find this topic interesting.

HAHAHAHA....I wish...

Whatever patient gets whatever crew, male/female, big/small, violent/not violent, etc. The only time I can really see asking for a crewmember of the same gender is if you have a female patient that claims she's been raped several times, just to protect the crew. Otherwise, leather restraints and tape do a pretty good job. Though I've noticed my male partners don't always apply the restraints as effectively as do females. Usually at a very inconvenient time.

If it's possible I try to match pt/provider gender but that doesn't always happen. You can always give your mileage to dispatch when you go enroute to the hospital/facility and again when you arrive at the hosptal/facility. At least than they know you didn't take any detours.

Unless there is some special concern ie.. (raped or some kind of abuse) than you get what you get.

Georgia law requires that you put females with females if at all possible

We run male-female crews as a rule for the most part. However, we run medic-basic or medic-intermediate. Sometimes there is no option.

I try not to take any chances and will accomodate crews when they request a female provider. All you need is one screwball sociopath and you're hosed. Remember, no one remembers the guy that was exonerated of molesting a patient after a false claim, they only remember the guy that was accused of molesting a patient.
