Soemthing that many of us have had the displeasure to see the after effects of and many of you have never had to see, and I hope that you don't have to, is the effects of the AK-47 rifle. One of the most powerful and destructive rifles that are on the streets of America that leave massive, gaping exit wounds.

I have personally seen many, many people shot to death and wounded by these rifles.

I had my first AK-47 shooting this summer in Newark. We got conflicting reports when we got there; we thought the guy was run over. The entrance wounds were normal size, and the exit wounds were the size of my head.

I have seen more shootings involving AK-47's than I care to remember. The amount of damage caused by these weapons is catastrophic. People are left maimed, wounded and dead by these weapons each and every day on the streets of America.

Our folks over the pond right now can attest to this and in Mike's short tenure with DEMS, I'm fairly certain that he too has seen what these weapons can do when put into the hands of street gangs as well as military combatants.

Most recently I have seen 5.56 rounds on the streets of Detroit which means that the AR-15 or perhaps some M-16's have made their way to the streets.

Working in Atlanta served me well when I ended up in Al Anbar province. AK wounds were nothing new by that point, the only difference being that there were readily accessible AP rounds as well as Soviet Bloc ammo.

Up this way, Comm. block rounds are the norm. They are sold in every sporting goods store that you can think of. Matter of fact, I think I have a grand total of 300+ Comm. bock 7.62X54R's left in my mini-armory.

I was asked the other night if I wore a vest at work by one of our probies. He was asking because his mom is a cop and was going to buy one for him. My response was: Why would I wear one? The gang bangers use AK's and they slice through body armor like butter. (Again, Comm. Blocks)
