Dobutrex
Class:
Sympathomimetic.
Actions:
Increases cardiac contractility, little chronotropic activity.
Indications:
Short-term management of congestive heart failure.
Contraindications:
Should only be used in patients with an adequate heart rate.
Precautions:
Ventricular irritability. Use with caution following myocardial infarction. Can
be deactivated by alkaline solutions.
Side Effects:
Increased heart rate, palpitations.
Dosage:
2.5-20 µg/kg/minute.
Method:
250 mg should be placed in 500 ml of d5w, which gives a concentration of 0.5
mg/ml.
Routes:
IV drip.
Pediatric Dosage:
2 - 20 µg/kg/min
