I've never posted anything remotely close to this before. This has been something floating around my brain for a few months.

We took a transfer out of the ICU from a woman who had coded, been resuscitated and was now alert and talking. Just before we left, I saw the expression on her face and her husbands face, just before, during and after their kiss as we were getting ready to leave.

By far one of the longest days of my career thus far. My shift starts at 0700, lasts 24 hours. And at approx 0720 on Thursday it started a hell of a day.

The rig my partner and I were on that day is stationed at a local volunteer firehouse - my volunteer firehouse. So at 0720, the fire department's tones go off for a "water rescue", party trapped in a vehicle in the river...behind the firehouse. No EMS paged, however, my partner and I took it upon ourselves to respond. ...

Before entering into my story of ropes, harnesses and guys I need to quick explain a few things...as of Jan 1 this year a portion of my ambulance service's area was "taken over" by the local "professional FD". Wow, have some catching up to do on here. Will probably visit a little more frequently - things have slowed down at work and will need distractions. As for home they are on fast forward. Officially had the boyfriend move in which means that 1/2 of the month is spent with 5 kids in the house. No need to expand on that and why I'm busy when I'm not at work.

It's official, I'm going back to my old vollie service.

I left originally because my ex-husband (husband at the time) was totally unsupportive of me taking 2 - 12 hr shifts a month and 1 - 2hr meeting a month. He actually told me that since I had become a Paramedic that it was beneath me to continue being a volunteer! I argued my point and ultimately to attempt to keep peace and harmony in the household (again) I resigned my position as a first responder.
