It is angina typically not induced by any type of activity (initiated while resting and not induced by a Cardiac Stress Test). With associated ST elevation rather than depression. The actual cause is unknown but is suspected to be associated with a malfunction of the endothelium of the coronary arteries.

Vasospasm appears to play a primary role instead of the typical "angina" pathophysiology. Nitrates and CCB's are typically used to treat this disorder.
