I tried to search the site looking for the thread to post system protocols but came up empty. I think it would be beneficial to see how widely different systems are different from each other. Who knows, if we all post our protocols here (or some where on this site) it could become one step closer to national standardization.

I'll go first.

If you want, I can try and break it up or shrink it for you. 390kb is the biggest PDF you can attach.

I would love to share ours, but the most recent version I can find on the internet is from 2006, and is out of date. I have a copy of our recent protocols, but it is 10.8 MB for the file. I will try to get it broken into smaller files so I can share it.

Oh SWEET!!!! Our region is putting together a protocol for post arrest hypothermia. Question I have is how are we going to keep 2 liters of normal saline at 4 Celsius?

In PA these protocols are modified to what the system medical director sees fit. In Philly we no longer carry valium or amiodorone for example.

As soon as I get a digital copy of "both systems I work for's" protocols I'll post them. Namely which will be St. John's EMS (Missouri (Springfield system)) and METS Ambulance Service (Joplin, MO) who share protocols with Newton County EMS.

We have a post arrest hypothermia protocol. We use a Pelican 1430 case. 1 bag of saline on each side. Ice pack in the middle. We swap out the ice pack every 24 hours. Keeps it nice and cold.

We carry a small cooler on each unit with 4 refreezable ice packs and 4 liters of chilled saline. All this is kept in fridges/freezers at the stations and rotated out every 12 hours. Holds temp till about the 14th hour so even late crew changes it's still effective.

Anybody got a run-down of a medevac helicopter minimum load-out per state mandate? I need it for a paper so I can point out a certain state's shortcomings as they relate to EMS.

Here are the NC State Protocols

NCCEP (http://www.ncems.org/nccep.html)

Here are the ones for Wake County (Raleigh Area). They were one of the first ones in the state to use hypothermia for ROSC

Due to some recent bullcrap i'm not going to post my systems name or protocols on here. (Again. I think i did once upon a time somewhere.) Our hypothermia protocol is icepacks at the back of the neck, groin, armpits, head when possible and monitor the pts core temp via rectal thermometer. A supervisor is on scene of most any code because they carry the LUCAS device we use here and they keep the chilled saline in a cooler in their vehicles.

Unfortunately, my protocol file is too large to upload.

Your file of 1.57 MB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 390.6 KB for this filetype.

Here are the standing orders for the Province of Ontario.

For the ALS protocols, some say "Contact Base Hospital" (on line medical control), however the local base hospital directors can allow medics to do skills without patching in. The majority of our orders we can do on standing order. The BLS guideline is the "generic" catch all, bible type guideline that all patient care is based on, and what you are trained on while in the BLS or Primary Care Paramedic Program, and if you are going to catch hell for your patient care, they will fall back on either one of these documents. The local BHPs can also add suplimental orders for treatment as they see fit. 3486 As for the nitty gritty of training, the majority of our text books are the same as used in the U.S. and there is also a national competency guideline that we also follow for each level of care.
