A woman charged with murdering her 3 1/2-week-old son used a knife and two swords to dismember the child and ate parts of his body, including his brain, before stabbing herself in the torso and slicing her own throat, police said Monday.

Otty Sanchez, 33, is charged with capital murder in the death of her infant son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. She was recovering from her wounds at a hospital, and was being held on $1 million bail.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the early Sunday morning attack occurred a week after the child's father moved out. Otty Sanchez's sister and her sister's two children, ages 5 and 7, were in the house, but none were harmed.

Otty Sanchez's aunt, Gloria Sanchez, said her niece had been "in and out" of a psychiatric ward, and that the hospital called several months ago looking to check up on her. She did not elaborate on the nature of her niece's health problems.

"Otty didn't mean to do that. She was not in her right mind," a sobbing Gloria Sanchez told The Associated Press on Monday by phone. She said her family was devastated.

McManus, who appeared uncomfortable as he addressed reporters, said Sanchez apparently ate the child's brain and some other body parts. She also decapitated the infant, tore off his face and chewed off three of his toes before stabbing herself.

"It's too heinous for me to describe it any further," McManus said.

McManus described the crime scene as so grisly that police officers barely spoke to each other while looking through the house. Parts of the child were missing, including pieces that Sanchez allegedly ate.

"At this particular scene you could have heard a pin drop," McManus said. "No one was speaking. It was about as somber as it could have been."

Officers called to Sanchez's house at about 5 a.m. Sunday found her sitting on the couch screaming "I killed my baby! I killed my baby!" McManus said. They found the boy's body in a bedroom.

I don't think there is any doubt that we are dealing with a human being. Only humans seem to have the capacity to be this evil. On the other hand, humans seem to be the only creatures on the plant that have the capacity to be kind and loving.

Go figure.

I am a firm believer in kharma. This woman will have many years of torment ahead of her. If they put her in prison and regular population, her days will be filled with pain and terror, as they should be.

This morning we had a 3 year old beaten so badly, that he had a frontal bleed, possibly multiple old bleeds, old and bruising and it looked as if his throat may have been slit. I'm sure we'll be talking with homicide tonight as he is in critical condition.

This is the WTF section. This story certainly fits because I cannot fathom the absolute depravity of such an act. If not, I wasn't aware that this site only allows EMS specific threads. If that's the case Mike better take down half the posted items.

But even if this post isn't specifically related to EMS it most certainly relates to it. Our job brings us face to face, on a regular basis, to mans inhumanity to man. Anyone here that doesn't have a story of this nature, if not this severity, either works in utopia or hasn't been on the job long enough.

Anyway, I don't see a problem posting something that a local 5 o'clock newscast won't hesitate to lead with.

I have always had a bit of goth in me. Used to spend many an hour at the cemetary wondering around. Actually used to have a hearse.

I ran on a call one day that sounds about like yours. Kid didn't make it. Next time I went to the cemetary, came across her grave. Never went back.

There is deep, dark areas of my mind where some of those memories are locked away. Just as well they don't come back, or at least not very often.

There is a special place in hell, or wherever, for people like this.

In 21 years of doing this, this is the 2nd run I have ever had that I think will have a lasting effect on me and that I will never forget...the first was the 4 children that were shot in the basement of their home by their father, 3 of the 4 were blown to bits by a 12 gauge shotgun, then the dad sat the house on fire on his way out the back door and locked it on his way out.

I'm sure I'll find out more tonight via DPD Homicide.

I'm pretty sure she's just flat-out god-forsaken crazy. Causing severe bodily harm to a child is evil, but what she did is insane.

I'm sure if she is ever in her right mind again and realizes what she's done, she'll certainly wish for death.

Very well may be splitting hairs here... and generally i don't get into "which one is worse" scenarios.. but i personally think that killing your baby, mutilating it and eating the parts you think may taste the best wins over letting rats eat a babys toes. But the thought of both make me sick.

I happen to strongly disagree.
the child that was mutilated is dead, wont ever suffer again at the hands of anyone.
While the death is horrific, that child is pain free

Where as the child who had their toes chewed off will forever suffer from those injuries.
The pain, anguish and horror of what was done to that baby will be with that child its whole life.
Think about it....
Phanton pain?
Possible rabies or other diseases
Balance issues
Psychological issues.
social issues.

Our society as a whole is very evil at this point and it is down right terrifying being a parent. But the most horrific part of these 2 crimes is that the person who allowed these atrocities to occur were the parents who should have loved and protected them the most.

She should have her eyes burned our with branding irons, and her flesh should be peeled from her body one square inch at a time, until the screaming stops, and then begin again as she regains consciousness! I wish I could think of something more severe!

Here's what I would love to do to these sick fucks that beat, kill or rape children...

Slowly peel each toe and fingernail off one at a time, cram a broomstick soaked in pine oil and glass up their asses, poke every inch of their bodies with a safety pin soaked in bleach into their skin...nice and slow like and skin 'em with a butter knife.

Oh, and each time they regain consciousness, use a pair of rusty pliers and pull one tooth out at a time, cut each finger and toe off a knuckle at a time and finally, soak them in honey, tie 'em down to 4 stakes and let fire ants eat them alive.
