Just wondering if anyone here has taken a capnography course? I'm looking for general opinions on what you think of it. I plan on taking one in June; I'm just curious....like usual.

If you regularly utilize capnography for intubated patients or general respiratory patients (nasal sampling), then I recommend that you take a course. It's a great tool and I use it often (pretty much on all respiratory patients, any recieving pain meds or sedatives, and of course, any that are intubated, including those in cardiac arrest).

Take it through Edutainment LLC. Bob Page is a great instructor and one of only two specialists on it.

Funny you should mention! I think he's the one teaching it.

He was my paramedic instructor...Ask him to tell you stories about MAST. He was a ground medic for them for years!

The class should be called "Riding The Waves" and is a great class. Bob is a wealth of knowledge on this topic and is very entertaining. He is a huge advocate for all pre-hospital services using capnography and I support it as well. You can't believe the things you can find out simply by looking at their CO2 and waveform.

Google his name and see what all comes up. I think you'll find it pretty impressive. Try and get into one of his 12-lead or sick/not sick classes to. Both are great classes! Airway Dogs and "Gone in 60 Seconds" are also great classes and a lot of fun.

I would be interested in taking a class on it. We were given a brief "here it is and this is when you're supposed to use it" session but not an official class.

Capnography is well on it's way to becoming the gold standard for tube verification. In my state there is already discussion about making it a mnadatory tool on all intubations. Good class and tool, take it.

a lot of people have the misconception that capnography is only good for verifying tube placement. Its SO awesome especially for your COPD CO2 retainers, can help you figure out respiratory alkalosis\acidosis among many other things. If you have the oral\nasal cannula in addition to the ET capnometer, there's a variety of great information you can get from the waveforms.

I took the same Bob page class, its a great class. I was calling in my radio report to a hospital that we dont often transport to and I gave them the Pt's C02 level, the Rn that was taking the pt didnt know what the hell i was talking about. My partner had to show her the nasal detector. i guess they only use ABG's. Take the class if you can, the last time i checked bob page had his riding the waves hand out online to view for free.
