I don't know if this has been talked about or not but here we go=
Dispatched to a scene on <Location removed> for a male patient possibly having a seizure. FHP onscene with patient. Upon arrival approached 19 yo male pt conscious, A&O answering questions but shaking uncontrollably. No history, no meds other than OTC energy pills and rockstar energy drink. No allergies. VS BP 180/110, pulse 130+, respirations 28 shallow no labored, pt placed on high flow O2, sorry no SPO2. ALS arrives and transports the pt to local facility. Still shaking uncontrollably and in some pain now.
After talking with the trooper who was on a traffic stop, he stated the car passed him did a uturn the freeway, and came back toward the trooper until it became stuck. Male pt gets out of car approaching trooper, trooper states he didn't know wether to draw or run, pt was walking contorted and shaking.
I'm wondering if any of you have had the same expierence or not. Also to inform you that this is not the first pt we've had like this, and we've begun to run on these more frequently. Male/female about equal, on the interstate also seen at our local high school.

In middle school I got hooked on energy drinks...then my friend got me on the pills because I was drinking 2-3 drinks and they weren't doing it anymore...soon I was taking 2-3 pills...the I took 2 pills and an energy drinks and omg it was bad...I was shaking and my heart was beating fast...me and her were walking down the railroad tracks between two trains and I started to get paranoid...thinking someone was following me and the trains were closing in...I started freaking out and walked fast home (I couldn't run I think I would have died) and we both collapsed exhausted and fell asleep...its bad I stay away from more than 1 a month.

Most of those contain caffeine which makes it a very dangerous combination. It only takes 1 geam of caffeine to put you into a coma that you will never come out of.

Back in 2003 my morning vitamins were 2 vivrin(sp) and a steady stream of coffee for the next 8 hours. I took the vivrin to get me to the coffee. I've not had a reaction, but i decided it was too much when the people at the little deli/coffee place at the airport started cutting me off about mid day. I do better these days.

I take the vivrin sometimes. It is wonderful stuff. I didn't get cut off, but the person at Starbucks asked me like 3 times did I want the extra shot of espresso in my caramel machiotto (sp?) since it already had 2 in it. She irked me but she was right. I'd had 6hrs sleep in 2 days and had just come off the shift from hell and was headed back into work that night so I thought the extra jolt would be good. That third shot messed me up bad. I wound up curled up in my bunk at work around 2100 with my head between my pillows praying my head would stop pounding and my heart would stop racing. I felt like I was going to throw up. It was horrible.

what u guys have experienced/ seen is a caffiene overdose. Been there, done that (specifically combined black coffee w/ adderall) and yeah it will kill you. Last I read (about 6 years ago) the LD 50 on caffiene is 5g, however long term abuse will cause cardiac problems, stomach ulcers, and does some pretty nasty things to your kidneys too.

What Wikipedia had to say about caffiene intox...
Caffeine intoxication
An acute overdose of caffeine, usually in excess of 400 milligrams (more than 3–4 cups of brewed coffee), can result in a state of central nervous system overstimulation called caffeine intoxication. Some people seeking caffeine intoxication resort to insufflation (snorting) of caffeine powder, usually finely crushed caffeine tablets. This induces a faster and more intense reaction. The symptoms of caffeine intoxication are not unlike overdoses of other stimulants. It may include restlessness, nervousness, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the face, increased urination, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid heart beat, and psychomotor agitation.[63] In cases of much larger overdoses mania, depression, lapses in judgment, disorientation, loss of social inhibition, delusions, hallucinations, psychosis, rhabdomyolysis, and death may occur.[66][67]
In cases of extreme overdose, death can result. The median lethal dose (LD50) of caffeine is 192 milligrams per kilogram in rats.[1] The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass, roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult taken within a limited timeframe that is dependent on half-life. Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine. Death typically occurs due to ventricular fibrillation brought about by effects of caffeine on the cardiovascular system.
Treatment of severe caffeine intoxication is generally supportive, providing treatment of the immediate symptoms, but if the patient has very high serum levels of caffeine then peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, or hemofiltration may be required.

I found this site last (http://http://www.energyfiend.com/death-by-caffeine/) night. Really puts things in perspective as far as how much is too much per person.

Death by Caffeine
How much of your favorite energy drink, soda, or caffeinated food would it take to kill you? Take this quick test and find out:
You could drink 93.84 cans of Monster before croaking.
After 139.67 cups of Brewed Coffee, you'd be pushing up daisies.
I don't think I can drink this much in a year much less a day or two.
